Attention Landlords in High Opportunity Areas – We Want to Partner With You

March 25, 2019

Low poverty and high-opportunity neighborhoods influence the well-being and long-term success of families

For a great cause the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority is seeking to partner with current and potential owners, landlords, and property managers, with rental property locations outside of high poverty concentrated areas within Tuscaloosa’s jurisdiction. The partnership will provide Housing Choice Voucher participants an opportunity to live in low poverty and high-opportunity neighborhoods while enhancing their chances of long-term health and success.

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, is the major federal program for assisting households with very low income, the elderly, and those who are disabled, to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. The housing subsidy is paid directly to the landlord by the housing authority on behalf of the participating family. The Tuscaloosa Housing Authority, currently administer a program of approximately 1500 Housing Choice Voucher participants.

An established partnership with the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority will impact the success of our families. It will positively affect their school district, their safety, and their neighborhood, job opportunities, transportation, and access to fresh and reasonably priced food and other basic goods and services.

It is a proven fact that growing up in low-poverty neighborhoods with good schools improves children’s academic achievement and long-term chances of success, and reduces intergenerational poverty. Whereas, living in high poverty neighborhoods with low performing schools and high crime rates harms families’ wellbeing, children’s ability to be successful, and can lead to mental conditions that impact a child’s motivation and desire to do well in school.

The Tuscaloosa Housing Authority is asking that you seriously consider partnering with us to make a difference in the lives of our participants.
